Book Review: Heart Words by Nora Everly

Heart Words: Released TODAY, January 31, 2020
Order: mybook.to/HeartWords
Add to Goodreads TBR: http://bit.ly/HeartWords
Synopsis:
She believes being alone is safer.
The last person Rose wants to see is the man who broke her heart.
Unfortunately, his daughter is the newest and most adorable kindergartner in her class, and he is the newest, hottest, and most annoyingly determined cop in town.
He believes she’s his dream come true.
Trevor knows how it looks. He screwed up. He has to make her understand and he’s willing to grovel to make it happen.
Unfortunately, Rose buries feelings like it’s her job, she’s an expert at avoidance, and he is number one on her list of people to hide from.
With the flame that never died still flickering between them and Trevor’s past resurfacing to haunt him, can he win Rose’s heart?
Is it possible to get a second chance when it felt like you never really took the first one?

My Review:

Small Towns & Second Chances

Heart Words is an absolutely amazing, steamy, swoony second-chance romance that I DEVOURED in one sitting (well, 1.5, since I had to go pick up my kids from school about 2/3 of the way through). Trevor and Rose have a history (from Book 1), but you don’t need to have read In My Heart in order to read this one. The relevant backstory is doled out to you in perfect time to understand what’s going on in present day/Book 2. Rose and Trev met in Book 1 and had an amazing connection with sizzling soul-mate level chemistry. For a laundry-list of reasons – all centered around his children- Trevor ended up “taking back” his estranged wife/his children’s mother at the end of her life. This didn’t sit well with Rose (they may have had some failures to communicate here as well…) and their blossoming relationship ended badly and before its time. Now, Trevor and his kids have moved to Sweetbriar for a fresh start, and his adorable daughter is in Rose’s kindergarten class. Ignoring the parent of her favorite student proves to be more difficult than Rose could have ever imagined.

Trevor knows he handled things badly with Rose, and is determined to make up for lost time and show her how much he loves her. Trevor is the yummiest!! He puts his children first, but his goal is to make a life for all three of them in Sweetbriar, and that life IS going to include the town’s sexy and stubborn kindergarten whisperer. Throw in a HUGE and lovingly intrusive family on Rose’s side, and you have a story that’s truly not to be missed. There is quite a bit of drama and even a few parts that had me on the edge of my seat as the past catches up with Trevor very unpleasantly, and I fully admit that the final pages had me in tears (I get oh-so-invested in “the good ones”) IN A GOOD WAY.

I absolutely love the way that Everly writes the children into this story, making the HEA about the family and not just the H&h. This seems to be a theme for her, and it’s something that I’m really enjoying about her storytelling. Rose’s inner dialogue is hilarious throughout this book, and I do hope that that “romantic comedy” feel is something that persists with future couples.

I voluntarily received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. My first “meeting” of this author was through SmartyPants Romance (Crime and Periodicals), and then moved into this Sweetbriar Hearts series. I’m thrilled beyond words that Everly has set us up for many more Sweetbriar books in the future, and I can’t wait to see what else this wacky, amazing, loyal, fun, and meddling family has in store for us!

Time for Tea Designs - Hip Hop Hooray with ACTION!

Good morning friends! Today I'm sharing my weekly inspiration project for Time For Tea Designs. Don't forget that you can (and should) play along in our monthly challenge, for your chance to win free digis! Everyone loves free digis, am I right? The theme for our challenge is Anything Goes. My favorite! It's so easy to enter - just make something using your Time For Tea Designs images and post them! Share with the hashtag #timeforteadesigns so we can find them, and you're entered to win! Challenges run monthly, and we will have a spotlight and a prize winner at the end of each challenge. Oh, and I have a discount code for you to use - T4TJENNIFER10 will save you 10% on your order from the Time For Tea shop! Yayyyy :)

For my card today, I'm showing off these adorable bunnies in the brand new Hip Hop Hooray clear stamp set! I just want to squeeze them! I told my husband we should get a pet bunny, but he didn't think that was a great idea...what a party pooper.

I've got a video of this bunny doing his Action Wobble/BOING BOING thing on my Instagram HERE if you're interested!

There's a lot going on here with today's project - it was so much fun to create! I started by cutting my large Smile Scalloped frame die out of Neenah Solar white cardstock and setting it aside. I also cut a piece of Neenah Solar white cardstock the same size as the outside border of the die so I could use it to create my background.

I flipped the frame piece over and used it as the outside mask for my background. I knew I was going to add the film strip at an angle, so I masked off a central line to break up the grass and sky using some scrap paper. Using my Beautiful Blender Brushes, I placed Distress Oxide ink (Tumbled Glass over the entire top background panel. Then I used Stormy Sky with the Lots of Love stencil from Taylored Expressions to add the hearts, fading it out toward the edges. I switched the mask to the other side and repeated with Mowed Lawn ink directly onto the cardstock, layered with the Wave Drift Pattern stencil from Gina Marie Designs and Peeled Paint ink over the top. The blender brushes put the ink on as smooth as silk!!

After I was done using the back of my frame as a mask, I ran it through my Big Shot with the Tiny Dots embossing folder to give a little more character to it.

Images are all colored with Copic markers and cut out with my Scan n Cut. For the Film Strip, I do have an OLD Sizzix die, but it wasn't quite the right shape for my purposes here, so I went online and found some clip art that I could resize to work with my layout. Then I cut it with my Scan N Cut. It's added to the card base using foam squares.

Once everything was all colored, dolled up, and cut, I started adding it to my card base and polka dot background panel. I'm normally COMPLETELY ALLERGIC to stuff being put on my cards "crooked", but I really think it adds some fun and whimsy to this scene to do it that way. I offset the background panel, the frame, and the bunnies as they hop on and off camera to move your eyes across the entire card. I've used foam squares/foam tape in varying depths from 1/16 to 3/16" across the card to give extra depth. Full supply list with links can be found at the end of this post.

I hope you enjoyed my project today. If you've got a moment, head over to join our FB communityfollow us on Instagram, and don't forget to play along with our monthly challenges by tagging #timeforteadesigns - so easy! Thanks for stopping by!

For my stop on the hop, I'm showcasing the Fairy Garden set; these beauties are TOO adorable for words!

There's a lot going on here with today's project - it was so much fun to create! I started by cutting my collage frame out of Neenah Solar white cardstock and setting it aside. I also cut a piece of Neenah Solar white cardstock the same size as the outside border of the die so I could use it to create my background.

Using my Beautiful Blender Brushes, I placed Distress Oxide ink in an ombre pattern effect over the entire background panel. The blender brushes put the ink on as smooth as silk!! I over-sprayed the green section with gold color splash spray from FSJ and apple green sparkle spray from Nuvo, and used a bit of Altenew white spray on the pink areas. I set that aside to dry, and started coloring my fairies!

Images are all colored with Copic markers and cut out with coordinating dies (Butterflies clear stamp images) or my Scan n Cut. Fairy wings are dusted with Stickles and/or Nuvo gloss drops. Lots of Wink of Stella on the various elements for extra glitz.

Once everything was all dolled up, I started adding it to my card base and polka dot background panel. I've used foam tape on the collage frame (1/8") and several of the fairies to give extra depth to this scene. Full supply list with links can be found at the end of this post. Oh yes, I have a discount code for you to use - T4TJENNIFER10 will save you 10% on your order from the Time For Tea shopIt won't work on the newest release yet, since that is exclusive to Create & Craft, but for anything in stock in the shop, you're all set!

I printed him onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored with Copic Markers - I buy all of mine at Scrapbookpal.com for their low prices and fast shipping. I cut him out with my Scan n Cut, and cut the sentiment with my never ending circles nested die set. Time For Tea Designs - Love with Alcohol Inks

Yayyyy :)

Today I've tried my hand at creating one of the lovely alcohol ink marbled backgrounds I keep seeing everywhere. I've actually used Copic refills since I don't have many colors of alcohol ink (YET!!). Once I was done blowing the ink around (R85, BG72 and YR31), I spritzed it a few times with Shimmer Gold color splash from FSJ and Altenew Pure White Ink Spray.

This 4" x 6" card features the Love Sentiment Die as the focal point. I really like the font on these dies - it's just perfect. Big enough to be a main "image" on a card, but small enough to allow you to add other details or stamped images; Jo did an amazing job in creating this line. There are lots of words to choose from, so check them out! I've used Baja Breeze as the aqua color to match my inky background, and layered the word "Love" over the top using shimmer gold cardstock.

I've added a few smaller stamped images from the Bee Happy clear stamp set (the heart trail and the solid heart) using Encore Gold ink after my background was dry. I cut the large rectangle frame from the Smile Sentiment and Scalloped Frame die set and layered it over my background panel for a finishing touch.

I hope you enjoyed my project today. If you've got a moment, head over to join our FB communityfollow us on Instagram, and don't forget to play along with our monthly challenges by tagging #timeforteadesigns - so easy! Thanks for stopping by!

Time for Tea Designs - Honey Bee Mine

Yayyyy :)

Today I've pulled out a set that was released late last spring and used it to create this fun Valentine's Day card! This 4" x 6" card features the Bee Happy stamp and coordinating die set, along with the Bee Hive stencil layered over the top of one of our brand new masking stencils (Large Heart). You can find all the Bee products HERE - they are bundled AND reduced in price, snap them up while you can! I love these little cuties.

To create this project, I first set up my cardstock base with the Large Heart masking stencil. I used one of our Beautiful Blender Brushes to apply Candied Apple Distress Oxide Ink to the the entire open area. Check out perfect those edges came out! Then, I laid down the Bee Hive stencil over the top and over-sprayed it with Nuvo Sparkle Spray in Morning Fog.

For the next phase, I stamped the bee and hive images onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored them with Copic Markers - I buy all of mine at Scrapbookpal.com for their fast shipping and awesome service. Then I heat embossed the sentiment onto Ruby Red cardstock using Nuvo Fine Details Embossing Powder in Glacier White. I cut it out using the banner die from the Best Fishes borders and banners die set, and skimmed the edges with a black chalk marker to give a little more definition to it (since I knew I'd be layering it over the top of my stenciled heart).

I cut the large rectangle frame out of black cardstock using the Smile Sentiment and Scalloped Frame die set and layered it over my stenciled background panel. Once it was set up, I added my images and sentiment panel using various heights of foam squares, and Nuvo silver sequins went on with mini glue dots

I hope you enjoyed my project today. If you've got a moment, head over to join our FB communityfollow us on Instagram, and don't forget to play along with our monthly challenges by tagging #timeforteadesigns - so easy! Thanks for stopping by!

To make the background, I used 2 different stencils, with 2 colors of Distress Oxide inks for each one. The pink heart used Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick. The Honeycomb used Fossilized Amber and Scattered Straw. I blended the inks with my blender brushes. Both stencils are from Time for Tea Designs - large heart masking stencil and bee hive stencil.

I've used lots of foam squares on the bee and the sentiment, and I popped up the white layer over my card base with 1 thin layer of foam tape as well.
